DJs are no longer simply the people behind the decks providing background music at parties. They have become central figures in shaping Uganda’s nightlife, particularly among Gen Z, where music, energy and the overall experience have become just as important as the venue itself.
One DJ who has embraced this shift is Dreadlazer, whose energetic sets and ability to connect with young partygoers have helped him build a strong following across Kampala.
Now, Dreadlazer is taking that experience beyond the club with the second edition of his Turn Up party, scheduled for 4 September at Kati Kati Grounds.
Smirnoff Uganda has partnered with the DJ for the event as part of its continued support for vibrant nightlife experiences and local creatives.
The partnership was officially launched at an exclusive mini-party preview attended by members of the media, influencers, Smirnoff representatives and the event’s organising team.
The preview offered a taste of what partygoers can expect at the main event, with music, drinks and an energetic atmosphere setting the tone for the September celebration.
Dreadlazer, who is looking forward to the second edition, promised fans an even bigger experience featuring high-energy performances, smooth DJ transitions and a carefully curated music experience.
He also dedicated the milestone to the community that has supported his career, while applauding Smirnoff for continuing to create platforms that celebrate Uganda’s creative talent.
Raymond Karama, Brand Manager at Smirnoff Uganda, said the partnership reflects the brand’s commitment to supporting DJs and creating platforms where they can showcase their creativity.
“Through the Smirnoff Fiestas, Smirnoff has been at the forefront of vibrant city-wide party experiences that bring together different DJs to showcase and celebrate their creativity,” Karama said.
He added that Dreadlazer has been among the DJs the brand has worked with and that supporting his own party was a natural extension of that relationship.
The Turn Up will also feature performances from DJs Life of the Party and Linus, alongside MCs Pest and Benjie, who will join Dreadlazer for the event.
Tickets are available online via Quicket at Shs35,000, with each ticket coming with a complimentary Smirnoff drink.
