In the final round of the 2023 Johnnie Walker Uganda Ladies Open Golf Championship, Peace Kabasweka and Iddy Hussein Madina battled it out, with Kabasweka emerging as the victor. They were neck and neck until the last hole, where Kabasweka secured the title with a par while Madina faltered with a bogey.

It was a historic win for Kabasweka, who hadn’t claimed the Ladies’ title of the Uganda Open before.

Kabasweka’s journey to victory began with a strong start, posting a record score of 4 under par 68 on day one. She maintained her lead throughout the tournament, displaying resilience in the final round. Despite the intense pressure, she sunk the final putt with precision, securing her long-awaited trophy and expressing her gratitude to her supporters.

Kabasweka dedicated her win to her six-month-old son, Ethan, and solidified her status as one of the top lady golfers of her generation.

The 19th-hole experience, powered by anchor sponsors Johnnie Walker, added to the excitement as fans and golf enthusiasts celebrated her victory.

In the Seniors Open, Steven Katwiremu emerged as the men’s champion after a playoff, while Roza Mbilizi claimed the Senior Ladies’ title.

Notably, Johnnie Walker elevated the 19th Hole experience with their Hospitality Village, adding a special touch to the event with entertainment from DJ Slick Stuart and a Gifting Experience for golfers.

The winners were honoured with trophies and Johnnie Walker Green and Black Label Bottles, presented by Uganda Breweries Ltd Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo and the Guest of Honour, Security Minister, Gen. Jim Muhwezi.

Looking ahead, the 2023 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship continues with the Amateur Open, Pro-Am, and Professional Open in the coming weeks, promising more exciting golf action.
