The ongoing 2023 AFCON has unfolded as one of the most captivating tournaments in its history, with unpredictability reigning supreme among the competing teams.

As the prestigious tournament enters the quarterfinal stage, set to kick off this Friday, the matchups promise intense battles. Nigeria is set to face Angola, DR Congo will take on Guinea, Mali will square off against hosts Ivory Coast, and Cape Verde is geared up to play against South Africa.

There is a series of photos that sum up the action so far in Ivory Coast, but these are the most trending.

This photo has become an instant viral meme as it was taken a few seconds after Ivory Coast eliminated defending champions Senegal on penalties. It has attracted hundreds of hilarious captions like, “They call me Senegal because I start on top and finish on the bottom.”

Equatorial Guinea’s Coach Micha reacts after Nsue missed the penalty.

Just like the above photo, the photo of Equatorial Guinea’s coach, Juan Micha, is also a viral meme. That was Micha’s reaction when team captain Emilio Nsue missed a penalty against Guinea in the Round of 16 tie that was played last Sunday. Equatorial Guinea ended up being knocked out.

Didier Drogba.

Who wants to see a legend like Didier Drogba in such a sad situation? But football is football; the above photo was taken when Ivory Coast (Drogba’s home country) was losing against Nigeria in the second group game. The photo has since been used as a meme.

South African playing doing Ronaldo’s ‘ice cold’ celebration.

This was taken last night and is going viral. When South Africa scored the late second goal against Morocco, the Bafana Bafana players decided to do Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘ice-cold’ celebration. It should be remembered that Morocco knocked out Portugal in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and it sent Ronaldo into tears.
