Ugandans to pay Shs200k for National ID replacement

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire said that Ugandans will have to pay Shs 200,000 for lost national ID replacements or make changes. Previously, the government has been charging Shs50,000.

While appearing before the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee of Parliament, Otafiire said that the new fee structure will force Ugandans to be very careful with their IDs.

However, the proposed fee structure has raised concerns among several members of parliament on the committee.

NRM’s Kabanda proposes MPs should be paid based on attendance

Following Speaker Anita Among’s warning to legislators over missing plenary and committee sittings, Kasambya County MP, David Kabanda proposed that legislators should be paid based on their attendance.

Kabanda, who subscribes to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party believes that the move will curb the issues of absenteeism in Parliament.

Earlier this week, Among told the House that her study of the attendance records for committee and House business from July 2022, showed high absenteeism of Members of Parliament.

Flavia Tumusiime given new show on Capital FM

Media personality Flavia Tumusiime Kabura has been given a new show on Capital FM.

On Tuesday, Flavia issued a hint that it was her last day hosting a mid-morning show dubbed AM-PM on Capital FM.

Flavia, who joined Capital FM in 2006, will start hosting the DESERT ISLAND DISCS show this Sunday.

Museveni reappoints Ofwono Opondo as Media Centre boss

On Tuesday, President Yoweri Museveni renewed the contract of the Executive Director of Uganda Media Centre (UMC), Ofwono Opondo.

Opondo was first appointed UMC boss in 2013. His contract has since been renewed three times.

The Uganda Media centre was established in September 2005 by President Museveni. Its main role is to introduce professional management of government media relations.

Museveni retires 48 army Generals

President Yoweri Museveni, the Commander In Chief of the armed forces retired 48 generals of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces at a ceremony held at State House Entebbe on Wednesday.

General Elly Tumwine, who died last week and was buried on Tuesday was supposed to be the 49th of the retiring generals.

Among the notable retirees, most of whom were part of the 1986 National Resistance Army liberation group that brought the current government to power include RO 00031 Gen. David Sejusa, who is a former Coordinator of Intelligence Services, and Lt. Gen. Andrew Gutti, formerly Chairman of the General Court Martial.

Others include RO 00087 Lt. Gen. John Mugume, RO 00038 Maj. Gen. Steven Kashaka, RO 00073 Maj. Gen. Joram Kakaari Tumwine, RO 00122 Maj. Gen. Manon Katirima Phinehas, RO 00167 Maj. Gen. Elly Kayanja, RO 00266 Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Balaba Muheesi and Uganda’s most decorated female military officer, RO 00217 Lt. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso, who is currently serving as Special Presidential Advisor on Defence and Security.
