Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has urged parents to stop overindulging their children, warning that excessive pampering is leaving many young people unprepared for life.

Speaking during an interview on Ruth Kalibbala’s YouTube channel, Mayiga said some parents focus too much on making life easy for their children, instead of teaching them basic life skills and responsibility.

He noted that many children today grow up unable to do simple tasks like washing plates or cleaning their own clothes. As a result, they develop a desire for a comfortable lifestyle without the mindset or discipline needed to achieve and sustain it.

According to Mayiga, this is one of the reasons why some children struggle to manage or maintain the wealth left behind by their parents.

He emphasised that while parents should build strong relationships with their children, they must set clear boundaries and focus on proper upbringing rather than overprotection.

Mayiga also encouraged parents to enjoy the wealth they have worked for, instead of sacrificing everything to leave it behind.

“Raise children well, pay their school fees, treat them and let them create their own success,” he advised, stressing that good values and independence matter more than inheritance.
