The news of leaked nudes and sex tapes in Uganda has become commonplace on Ugandan social media platforms in recent years as several celebrities have had their private business exposed to the public by thieves, bitter boyfriends and foes alike.

Towards the end of May this year, city comedienne and YouTuber Martha Kagimba alias Martha Kay woke up to the shocking news of her leaked nudes making rounds on social media and people were asking for them and passing them around like their life depended on it.

According to reports, the raunchy images were released by thieves who stole her phones and asked for a Shs10 million ransom that was never paid.

The thieves who are suspected for having committed the heinous crime are 27-year-old Herbert Arinaitwe from Rubaga division who operates as John Paul, and 34-year-old Farid Mukiibi.

In a court session presided over by Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Miriam Okello, Prosecution said that between April 10 and 11 this year, Arinaitwe and Mukiibi robbed Martha Kay’s two Smartphones; a Samsung Galaxy S8 Gold and iPhone X Black. They also took off with her money purse that had cash to the tune of Shs400,000, her Stanbic Bank ATM card and driving permit.

To aid them in their robbery, the two men used a dangerous substance called scopolamine (devil’s breath) that rendered Martha unconscious making it easy for them to rob her clean. They then demanded Shs10 million from Martha, an act termed as “demanding property with threats” in court.

Prosecution also accused the duo of “wilfully, maliciously and repeatedly using electronic communication to harass their victim, with intent to place her under reasonable fear for her safety.”

It is on these counts that Buganda Road court decided to remand Arinaitwe and Mukiibi to Luzira on charges of aggravated robbery, demanding property with intent to steal and cyber stalking, even though they denied the charges.

Martha Kay has since gone AWOL from social media in an effort to recover from the fact that the public knows how she looks like, if you know what we mean.
