This weekend has been jam-packed with NBS TV going head to head with NTV Uganda in lockdown night parties that have dominated social media, but let us not pretend that ‘glam girl’ Sheilah Gashumba has not ultimately dominated debate on our social media streets.

Kicking off the weekend on Friday night with exposing former employers NTV Uganda for paying her peanuts to going on to reveal how she pays her house help Shs400,000 per month, the former TV personality sparked a debate that had people discussing their grievances with remuneration, something they feel is not worth the effort they put in.

It is as if Sheilah has opened up a jar that was full of bottled feelings enclosed therein for so long, and now is the time to let it all out, in hope that the top guys would take heed and think of payment plans that resonate with their employees’ input.

Today, following her revelations, the socialite has revealed plans of establishing an organisation that will push for fair compensation to Ugandan employees in Uganda for work done, and protect them from exploitation.

“Now more than ever, we need to stand up and demand for a fair compensation that is commensurate with the skills and the work done by Ugandan employees, who need to be protected from exploitation by foreign multinational companies, Ugandan companies, and all other employers.

“For that purpose, I am going to establish an Organisation to agitate for the economic rights of all Ugandan employees in Uganda and to demand for a fair compensation for work done,” Sheilah tweeted, adding that economic empowerment is a human rights issue, enjoyment of which is hindered by the exploitation of the work force.
