Dorothy Shonga arrested for alleged illegal contract with Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority

Following her divorce from estranged husband Herbert Shonga, the Malawian national Dorothy Shonga relocated back to her home country with her children.

However news reaching us is the self-proclaimed cash madam was on Tuesday arrested by the Malawian police after being implicated in illegal deals at Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA).

The Malawi National Police spokesperson, James Kadadzera confirmed the arrest of Shonga though declined to give details of the matter.

According to the Police, Shonga was given a contract of supplying golf shirts to MERA at Malawian Kwacha MK75000 (Shs372,827) each while the same shirt on the local market ranges from MK10,000( Shs49,710) to 20,000 (Shs99,420).

It is also reported that Shonga through her company DC Brand Cloud, a local marketing and branding company has been getting huge sums of money from MERA where she has been directly dealing with the institution’s Chief Executive Officer, Collins Magalasi.

A  Malawian website, Nyasa Times stated that Shonga has also been using her company to get dubious deals from former President Peter Mutharika’s Democratic Progressive Party government.

Police also raided the MERA headquarters and arrested the company Communications Officer Patrick Maulidi and Bright Mbewe, the Procurement officer.
