Ssuubi Henry Kiyimba was the man of the moment following his social media fairy tale fortunes that resulted from a picture of him carrying a metallic case on his first day of school.

Not only was social media abuzz with the story but also mainstream media. Ssuubi instantly was news fodder and attained instant celebrity status.

However, in a country like Uganda where the news and the population move on so fast, Makerere University is no exception as the students seem to have moved on from Ssuubi’s rags to riches tale.

The Makerere University Mechanical engineering student was shown no love after being defeated by Elizabeth Musimenta, the newly elected GRC for School of Engineering.

Musimenta gathered 222 votes while Ssuubi garnered a meager 29 votes.

Reports from a local University website indicate that Ssuubi’s expectations were overly raised by slay queens who chanted his name and hyped him during campaigns. However, when it got to the ballot, they ticked Musimenta’s name on grounds that she is more competent and will therefore deliver.

Reports further indicate that Ssuubi is in low spirits as he had invested a lot of efforts moving door to door for support with his signature slogan, ‘Service with Integrity.’
