Singer Grenade, whose real name is Deus Ndugwa, has disclosed that, like many other Ugandan musicians, he faced various challenges while starting out his music career. However, one incident he will never forget is when renowned media personality MC Kats gave him Shs20,000 to quit music and return to the village.

Speaking during an interview on Galaxy TV, Grenade stated that the incident happened when he had taken his song to Kats, who then, after listening to it, advised him to quit music as he believed he would not succeed in the music industry.

The singer further narrated that he begged Kats to only give him Shs2000 so that he could have something to eat after explaining to him that he had nowhere to go if he took the Shs20k.

“I was still a street kid and I had nowhere to go. My only hope was to get a breakthrough in the music industry,” he said.

Fast forward, Grenade said that he has passed through many hands to reach where he is currently. However, his life changed for the better in 2019 when he released his hit song ‘Nkuloga.’ Also that year, he performed at the African Music Festival in Dubai.

“Many people have helped me to reach where I am. These include Coco Finger, Big Eye, Pallaso, Judith Heard, Paul Owori, and Jeff Kiwa, among others,” he said.
