Gideon Kirumira, son of city businessman Godfrey Kirumira, has said that he is enjoying a smooth life because his father (Tycoon Kirumira) perfectly utilized his youthful years and managed to build a business empire.

Gideon bragged that, unlike some of the elders, his father did not have time for partying and being in bars, as he solely focused on constructive opportunities that were available at the time.

“I am enjoying life because my father did not spend his youthful years partying in bars. I am a beneficiary of his hard work, which is why you can describe me as a planned kid,” said Gideon Kirumira during an interview on a local TV station.

Gideon, who is always moving around Kampala cruising in a string of luxury vehicles, including Lexus, Range Rover, Hummer, and G-Wagon, among others, however, says that Kirumira does not just splurge on him and his other siblings.

He narrates that he makes them work for it, which is his way of mentoring them.

Godfrey Kirumira, who is the Namibian Consulate in Uganda, is among the wealthiest people in Uganda, with investments in real estate, education, petroleum, hospitality, telecommunications infrastructure development, transportation, and private security, among others, under his GKK group.

The business mogul, who is also the chairperson of the Association of Kampala City Tycoons, alias ‘the Bagagga Kwagalana group,’ started from humble beginnings, importing Hankook tires from Korea and bicycles. He has since developed his empire, with several commercial, residential, and hospitality buildings within and around Kampala.

He owns Kirumira Towers, Hotel Havana, Hotel International, Royal Complex, a bus company, Kirumira Bargary Limited, which invests in the gas and fuel industry in Uganda.

He also owns Gelp Petroleum, a brand that runs seven petrol stations around Kampala. Additionally, he is the proprietor of GKO Security, a private security firm.

Kirumira has partnerships with local telecommunications companies Airtel Uganda and MTN Uganda for network infrastructure development in the form of telecom masts.

It is also worth noting that he was once a patron of the local club Express FC for almost a decade, focusing on developing talent. He is remembered for recruiting the best players in the league at the time and spending large amounts of money on remuneration to motivate the players.

In the education sector, Kirumira has investments in two institutions of learning: Bright Future Secondary School Bwebajja, a high school located along the Kampala-Entebbe highway, and St. Mary’s Junior School Nabbingo, a primary school with both day and boarding sections.
