Outspoken social commentator Frank Gashumba has responded to critics questioning why he chose a youthful fiancée, Patience Mutoni Malaika, saying they should instead ask themselves why he bypassed three districts to find love deep in Lwemiyaga, Ssembabule District.

Last Thursday, Gashumba was officially introduced by Malaika to her parents in Ssembabule District.

According to Gashumba, although he sees many beautiful women in and around Kampala, most of them lack discipline and tend to be chaotic.

“Most of us men marry for peace, character, and intelligence — and my Malaika has it all,” Gashumba said during an interview on a local radio station.

“I’ve known Malaika for about two years, but I always tell her that the day I stop feeling at peace, I will simply leave home and go,” he added.

Gashumba praised Malaika’s humility, sharing how she embraced a modest lifestyle when they met.

“When I met Malaika, she didn’t own a car—she was using bodas and taxis. I deliberately let her continue with that for eight months to test her patience and character. After that, I took her to driving school and bought her a brand-new car this January,” he said.

Addressing those questioning the age gap between him and Malaika, Gashumba stated that she is not underage and is of the exact age he desires.

“Did you expect me to marry older women like Annet Nandujja or Namirembe Bitamazire? Malaika is of age, and that’s exactly what I want,” he said.

Gashumba revealed that he fulfilled all the requirements from Malaika’s parents, including paying Shs6 million in cash and providing 12 cows. He added that preparations are already underway for what he described as the “biggest” wedding.
