Singer Rema Namakula has spoken out about inappropriate behaviour from fans during performances, revealing she has personally experienced it and standing in solidarity with fellow artist Tracy Melon.
Her comments follow a recent incident in Mbarara, where Tracy Melon was forced to end her show abruptly after a fan allegedly touched her inappropriately while she was on stage. The moment left the singer visibly shaken and sparked widespread concern among fans and fellow performers.
Reacting to the situation during an interview on NBS After5, Rema said the incident reflects a growing problem of disrespect towards artists, noting that performers are often treated as entertainment objects rather than individuals deserving of dignity.
She stressed that stage performances, even when playful, should never be mistaken as an invitation for inappropriate behaviour, adding that artists are professionals with personal lives and responsibilities beyond the spotlight.
Rema also disclosed that she recently faced a similar situation during a performance upcountry, where a fan crossed the line and touched her inappropriately. She said she reacted immediately to defend herself, though the incident did not gain public attention.
The singer called for greater respect and understanding of boundaries, emphasising that consent is essential at all times.
