First son and Commander of the Special Forces Command, Lt. Gen.  Muhoozi Kainerugaba has today seemingly become the first person from Uganda’s first family to officially receive his COVID-19 jab.

For the pasted months, there has been a report that President Yoweri Museveni and some relatives were vaccinated.

Over the weekend during his national address, Museveni said he has not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19 because he is “careful” and is still weighing which jab to take.

“The reason I have not been vaccinated is first of all I am quite careful,” Museveni said, adding the vaccine rollout was starting with highly vulnerable people like health workers. “I am also looking at which of the vaccines should I go for.”

With Muhoozi now taking the jab, the speculations have been apparently put to bed.

“Today, it was my pleasure to open the covid-19 vaccination campaign within SFC by taking my first shot of AstraZeneca vaccine. I thank H.E. Museveni, the Ministry of Health and our development partners for the quick acquisition and roll out of this vaccine,” Muhoozi said in a tweet.

Uganda began vaccinating health workers and the elderly last week after receiving 864,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from COVAX, the World Health Organisation-backed programme to provide vaccines to poor and developing countries.
