A month after Tree Planting Day that was held on March24, the   Chief Executive Officer of the Great Outdoors Mr Leonard Mutesasira  has asked people to continue planting trees.

“We always celebrate international tree planting Day on March 24 each year but each year we  were delayed by the lack of rains in the month of  March  and so we decided to celebrate the international tree planting Day on April 30th 2022  so that our Saplings (young trees) would not struggle.

The Great outdoors is hosting the first ever International Tree Planting Day celebration under the theme: – Play your part, Plant a tree, Starting  at 8:00am till 12:00 noon and we call upon different communities to join us and play the greatest role of saving our environment by planting over 1 million trees between 2022 and 2023.  So on that very day we hope to plant over 500 trees but we also ask the communities to plant at least a tree on that very day. And expect to plant 1 million trees in a period of two years” said Mutesasira.

The UN General Assembly proclaimed 21 March as the International Day of Forests in 2012. The Day celebrates and raises awareness of the importance of all types of forests.

On each International Day of Forests, countries are encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns. The theme for each International Day of Forests is chosen by the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF).
