The ways that people pay their final respects to the deceased vary throughout the world and are influenced by a variety of traditions, beliefs, and cultural norms.

An uproar on social media is being caused by a Daily Monitor video showing residents being caned for skipping a burial ceremony in their village.

The commentary on the undated video states that the incident happened in the Bukedea district in eastern Uganda.

The residents chose to go drink alcohol instead of going to the burial, according to the voice in the background of the video.

“In this village, they cane you once you don’t attend a burial ceremony,” said the voice behind the commentary.

Other village residents came to witness the caning.
