Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization, Anite Evelyn, has disclosed the reasons behind her decision to reclaim the ambulance she had donated to her constituents in 2021.

During the 2021 elections, Anite, well-known for her catchphrase “I am the gateway to Koboko,” contested to retain her position as the Member of Parliament for Koboko.

In an effort to gain favour with voters, Anite donated an ambulance to the district hospital. However, she suffered a resounding defeat at the hands of Dr. Charles Ayume in the election.

A few weeks later, she retrieved the donated ambulance, and since then, she had not publicly explained her actions.

On Tuesday, the page “African Facts Zone” on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) reshared a post depicting her taking back the ambulance. The X post read, “Ugandan Politician, Evelyn Anite took back an ambulance she donated to her district, after losing an election in 2021,” sparking a conversation with many criticizing the minister.

In response, Anite acknowledged that she had indeed taken back the ambulance and expressed pride in her decision. She clarified that the ambulance was not a donation but rather a conditional grant, subject to reconsideration.

“I actually did it, and I am very proud of my action. Once they said go away, I packed all my belongings and left them, now I hear people crying as if I was the first one to call it quits. The Bible says the wage of sin is death,” Anite stated in her response to the X post.

In another separate post, she reiterated that she had no regrets about taking back the ambulance, as the constituents had not voted for her.

“Thank you for bringing this up. First, it’s true I took back my ambulance, and I have no apologies for that. Why did I do it? It’s because they didn’t vote for me. So did you expect me to walk away with nothing? Galatians 6:7; A man reaps what he sows,” she explained.

Anite also revealed that she sold the ambulance and got her money back.
