centenary2Centenary Bank on Monday instituted a Shs100,000 ATM withdrawal limit across its network. The usual limit is Shs800,000.

Sources tell us that this followed an Independence Day ATM scam where fraudsters made off with Shs500m in a sophisticated scheme hitting ATMs across the country. Apparently, they managed to access customers pin numbers and the incidents are on the increase, forcing the bank to upgrade their systems.

“We have temporarily adjusted the withdraw limits to Shs100,000 to solve some ATM system challenges,” says Allen Ayebare,  Centenary Bank’s  Chief Manager, Corporate Affairs and Communication.

She admitted that “fraud was one of the problems” that had led the bank to institute cash limit on the ATMs.

However, she noted that the bank is not in a financial crisis and that customers can still withdraw whatever amount of money they wish from across the counter.

But customers are in panic and some have moved to withdraw their money from the bank. Others have changed their ATM pin codes while some have flooded the bank’s official Facebook page with questions.

“Rumour has it that all pin numbers are deactivated. Please throw some light,” Carol Kaj said.

Hi Centenary Bank Can we have justification from your end about the spreading issues concerning the security of our A/C and our Money Please ….. ??  Didas Lubogo wondered.

Brenda Ker said,  “Hello. Is the news that our ATMs pins have been deactivated true? What is goin on? Has any sort of fraud been going on? Please clarify

“Cententary Bank pliz, we trusted you and decided to bank with you but i can’t just imagine you take on implementing some service minus any notification yet you have all our contacts!!!

This afternoon entering an ATM machine to carry out some transaction only to be told that “Visit any Nearby Cententary Bank with Valid ID mbu to get New Pin!!!!!!!!”

Cententary Bank just imagine asituation when one used the same ATM card a day before and all went well now this person i from upcountry planning to travel back to town and he or she is to draw transport using the ATM card and all he or she gets is such a message!!!!!!!!

I don’t think it costs you anything to notify your customers early before the actual service is disrupted we are tired of sorries pliz don’t be like UMEME” Diane Kibuuka said.
