The results of the National Census were announced on Tuesday afternoon by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, putting the Ugandan population at only 34.9 million.

It had been estimated that Ugandans had hit the 36 million mark before the census, but results stated otherwise.

Some analysts think the census enumerators didn’t do a good job in counting every Ugandan, but the UBOS Executive Director Ben Mungereza put the low figure at the decreasing level of fertility.

Also, there are more women than men in the country with women standing at 17.9m and men at 16.9m.
