I haven’t received fair hearing in Rwanda… Kazoora speaks out

kazoora10Ugandan TV production and marketing guru Junior Dave Kazoora has spoken out on the recent ruling of the Rwandan Intermediate court, which stated that the TV personality serves one year in prison and pays his former partner at Buddies Production Rwanda (one Nina Kagenza) a compensation of Rwandan Francs 15 million (about Ush63 million).




“I haven’t received a fair hearing throughout the course of the hearing,” Kazoora said, speaking exclusively to Matooke Republic this afternoon.

kazoora11“Since this case rolled off almost two years ago, I have done everything possible to show the Rwandan authorities that I did no wrong.”

“But for some reason the courts in Rwanda haven’t really given my arguments a fair hearing,” Kazoora further said. “I think they are just being patriotic, trying to show solidarity to one of their own.  Otherwise, my case is very clear that I didn’t defraud anyone like Genza claimed in suing me.

It might be remembered that Kazoora’s troubles started in late 2014, when he was arrested for a week in Rwanda on grounds of fraud. One Davis Genza, the brother to Nina Kagenza (Kazoora’s former partner at Buddies Production Rwanda), sued the Ugandan TV guru on the grounds that he had acted fraudulently in setting up a company called Buddies TV Rwanda and using it to take over business that had previously been produced by Buddies Production Rwanda.

Upon arraignment in court, Kazoora was convicted of fraud and sentenced to one year in jail, as well as ordered to pay his former partner Rwandan Francs 15 million in compensation. Kazoora chose to appeal the sentence in the higher court (known as the intermediate court) and it is the appeal the TV producer lost a couple of days ago as court upheld the earlier ruling of 2014.

Kazoora says he is not convinced with the ruling and he is going to appeal. “I got 99 problems but fraud ain’t one,” he told us.
