Yoweri Museveni has said he cannot influence the release of incarcerated former FDC president and four-time national presidential aspirant Dr Kizza Besigye from jail.

Dr Kizza Besigye has been in Luzira prison for a month now, having been charged with treason and remanded for swearing himself in as president of Uganda in a sereptitious FDC-organized event whose video clip widely circulated online.

President Museveni made his remark today late in the afternoon during the reading of the 2016/17 budget, after opposition MPs raised placards demanding the release of Dr Besigye.

“It is court that releases people, I can’t release him,” President Museveni said in response to the opposition MPs, a brief diversion before he returned to the ‘budget’ theme of his speech

Thereafter Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga requested the Opposition MPs to show the President respect by resuming their seats and keeping quiet, saying, “Hon. Members your request has been heard and noted. Please take your seats.”

This was the second time opposition MPs raised placards demanding Dr Besigye’s release at President Museveni. The first did do during the State of the Nation (SON) address last week ago.
