byanyima1Engineer Winnie Byanyima, has said that authorities at Luzira prison have denied her access to her jailed husband, former FDC President Col Dr Kizza Besigye, who is incarcerated on charges of treason.

The wife of Dr. Besigye, who is also the Oxfam International Executive Director, posted on her Tweeter account yesterday that when she tried to call in at Luzira Prison to see her husband, prison officials told her she couldn’t go ahead to see him, giving no reason for the denial of access.

“I was refused to speak to Kizza Besigye today,” Eng. Winnie tweeted. “‘It won’t be possible today’” No explanation given. I’m hurt by arrogance and abuse of power.”

“I won’t beg them but continue to demand the right of a prisoner to a family visit and call,” she added.

In a private conversation, Byanyima also revealed that her access of her husband has been increasingly getting reduced ever since he was arrested now a month ago. Byanyima said that in the early days after Besigye was remanded on Treason Charges, she was able to speak to him “any day, however a time came and she was told she could only speak to him on Tuesdays and Thursdays, until yesterday when suddenly she was told speaking to him would not at all be possible.
