The High Court has granted Dr Kizza Besigye bail. He was granted bail of Shs100 million not cash. Judge Wilson Musene Masalu ruled Besigye’s lawyers had presented plausible grounds for his release on bail, while the State lawyers, according to the judge, did not provide any credible grounds for bail to be denied.

Delivering his verdict in a packed court room, Justice Musene said Besigye had proved himself to be of advanced age, a responsible citizen who would attend court even when out on bail and had presented credible sureties. Besigye is 60 years.

The judge however cautioned the FDC presidential flag bearer in the 2016 polls against engaging in violent acts. Besigye faces treason charges for allegedly conducting his own swearing in. He has been in Luzira for the last two months.
