Tragedy: Policeman who arrived at accident scene to help victims knocked dead by another vehicle on Masaka Road

Deus Kweyamba, the Kalungu District Traffic Officer died on duty in an accident in the wee hours of Sunday morning.





Kweyamba was knocked by a Fuso truck at an accident scene where a Jaguar bus registration number UAT 728F that was coming from Kampala heading to Kigali, Rwanda and a Volcano registration number RAD 793B heading to Kampala had earlier been involved in an accident at 5.40am.

According to Ibin Senkumbi, the Greater Masaka Police spokesperson, the accident happened at Mukoko village, Bukulula in Kalungu District along the Kampala-Masaka highway.

Eye witnesses blames the foggy conditions for the accident that involved six vehicles and claimed two other people.

Residents of Mukono village however say there was a lot of mist in the road which could have impaired the drivers’vision, resulting in the accident.

The  Fuso truck no.UAV 860B which hit the traffic officer was carrying soda.  Other vehicles involved in the accident were a double cabin no.UAD 712 and a trailer Reg. no. UAV 384E respectively.

All wreckages of the vehicles were towed to Masaka Central Police Station while the bodies of the deceased and the injured persons were taken to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for treatment and post mortem.
