US Ambassador Deborah Malac visited President Museveni at his country home in Rwakitura, Kiruhura District on Friday and mzee mixed business and pleasure with the diplomat.

“We discussed issues of mutual interest to our countries. Thereafter, I took the ambassador on a tour of my farm, specifically showing her my long-horned Ankole cattle” Museveni posted on his Facebook wall.

Museveni welcomes Malac to Rwakitura.

Relations between Museveni and western diplomats have been sore in the recent past, especially because of the government’s treatment of opposition leader Rtd. Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye who was kept under preventive house arrest following his protest of the results of the February 18, Presidential elections.

Besigye has also served two months in Luzira on treason charges after holding a mock swearing ceremony as the President of Uganda but he is currently out on bail.

Museveni has been leaning to Asian countries like China after the Western diplomats expressed their discontent with his 30-years-and-counting stay in power. But it looks like they have no option but to work with him as Uganda plays a pivotal role in the affairs of the Great Lakes region.
