Zimbabwe is not about to witness their second president since independence after ZANU-PF, the ruling party endorsed long serving president, Robert Mugabe to run for president

Robert Mugabe who turns 93 in February has been president since 1980 was endorsed on Saturday by his party to rule till he is satisfied. The ruling ZANU-PF party announced its support in the southeast town of Masvingo, where the party’s youth wing even proposed that Mr Mugabe should rule for life with broad powers.

Robert Mugabe used the platform to call for unity saying infighting in the party was not healthy for the country. Party leaders praised him for his exceptional wisdom and outstanding virtues.

Despite the praise, Mr Mugabe has acknowledged that some people within the ruling party have wanted him to quit.

“Let us stop fighting each other,” he said, referring to the succession fights that have engulfed his party.

Mr Mugabe, who won the 2013 election that was marred by allegations of voting irregularities, has seemed frail at times but still travels widely and says he wants to live to 100.
