Makerere University vice chancellor Ddumba Ssentamu refutes resignation rumours

Makerere University vice cancellor Ddumba Sentamu has today morning cleared the air over resignation rumours that had gone viral across on social media last evening.


A section of the university’s have heaped blame on the vice chancellor over the unending strikes. Dumba says he does not know anything about his resignation.

‘’I have not thrown in the towel because there is no call for it, I am already in office with several meetings thorought the day, therefore I don’t know anything about my resignation,’’ he said in while an interview at media briefing today morning.

After the University’s teaching staff decision to call off their long strike this week, there had been speculations that the University is set to reopen in January. However in his statement, Ssentamu said the institution is waiting for the President’s communication on when the university will resume its operations.

In response to queries of how  the university shall handle the usual January graduation parties due to the fact that there has not been lectures for the better part of last semester. Ssentamu revealed the issue will be discussed in today’s meeting and the details will be availed on tomorrow Thursday.

Makerere University academic staff laid down their tools because of the unpaid incentive arrears. In October, as a result President Museveni ordered the indefinite closure of the University.
