If you’re a superstitious person, you probably believe that its bad luck when something happens to everyone else except you. So if you have ever been or were close to being a victim of thugs who con over mobile money, it is something that has happened to everyone.
A mobile money agent in Kabale survived January losses after a gospel singer and two of her colleagues allegedly attempted to con him of Shs 950,000 but the suspects were busted before they could get away with it.
According to the mobile money agent, the suspects arrived in a Toyota Harrier and pretended to transact a cash withdrawal of Shs 950,000. The agent later realised that the mobile message they were using was empty and subsequently alerted boda-boda operators who cornered the trio.
Kigezi Region police spokesman, Mr. Elly Maate, identified the suspects as Lillian Keitesi a gospel singer who resides in Bwebajja, Wakiso District, Sam Sayuni, 35, and John Mutambire, who reside in Rubaga and Makindye respectively.
“We have impounded the suspects’ car Toyota Harrier Reg. No. UAN 737E until our investigations are complete and the suspects charged accordingly,” Mr Maate said.
However, Keitesi one of the suspects has denied any participation in the scam arguing that she was only trying to withdraw money from nearby Kabale Equity Bank.
