Ahead of today’s East African Parliamentary Legislative Assembly voting at parliament, many members of parliament especially the opposition side have claimed to be ignorant on how today’s EALA voting will be conducted. 47 candidates are in contention to fill only nine seats.
However, yesterday after the parliamentary seating, opposition MPs claimed speaker Hon. Rebecca Kagada has failed to announce the exact systems on how the voting will be conducted today.
These claims originate from the fact that the ruling party National Resistance Movement has six candidates in the race and they are all expected to make it to EALA based on the numerical advantage of MPS they have in the 10th parliament.
This leaves only three seats for the remaining 41 candidates. Out of all these candidates, at least one must be an independent candidate of which we have 37 from that category. The puzzling question comes amongst three opposition parties; Forum for Democratic Change, Uganda People’s Congress and Democratic Party, which party will miss a slot at the EALA?.
DP and UPC brought one candidate respectively while the leading opposition party FDC first brought one candidate Hon. Florence Ekwa.
