Forum for Democratic Change members led by four time presidential aspirant Dr Kizza Besigye have this morning visited controversial and suspended Makerere University lecturer Dr Stella Nyanzi at Kira Divisional police headquarters.

“We are at Kira Road police station today in solidarity with “FreeStellaNyanzi.” FDC posted on their Facebook page.

Stella Nyanzi is expected to appear in court today over offensive communication and cyber harassment. Nyanzi was arrested last week on her way back from a Rotary Fellowship Mackinon Suites in Nakasero, Kampala where she had hosted a fundraising drive to raise money for sanitary pads for school girls. Since then she has been detained at Kira Road Police Station.

The prominent academician has for long been criticising the first family on her social media page in explicit language. Recently Nyanzi criticised First Lady Janet Museveni, who is also a minister for Education and Sports for her husband’s failed pledge to supply free sanitary pads to school girls, leading to a high drop out rate.

Last month, Nyanzi was interrogated by Kibuli police CID department over offensive communication and cyber harassment but was later released on bond.

She is set to appear in court today.
