Should we expect more big names to fall into the trap? It is a big yes for the Ex-presidential secretary and advisor Tamale Mirundi. He believes President Yoweri Museveni is the only man who can help curb the corruption vice that is rampant among government officials.

Mirundi was giving his verdict on the case in which State minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations Herbert Kabufunzaki was netted taking a Shs30m bribe on Saturday.

“President Museveni is honest, he is the only person who can fight corruption in Uganda,’’ said Mirundi on his weekly TV show.

Museveni played a role in netting Kabafunzaki.

On the fateful Saturday morning, minister Kabufanzaki moved to Serena Hotel to solicit for a bribe from Hamid Muhammed, the proprietor of AYA Group of Companies who owns Hilton Hotel in Nakasero.

Little did the minister know that he was being followed by state operatives and detectives from Criminal Investigations Unit who had earlier been helped by the investor himself to tap all communications the minister had had with him.

It is alleged that during one of the phonecalls, the minister promised to relieve the investor Hamid of his rape charges in exchange for Shs30m.

The minister was caught red-handed receiving the bribe. He was arrested instantly together with his clearing agent identified as Brian Mugabo. The photos of the arrest were widely circulated on social media.

Kabafunzaki, also the Member of Parliament for Rukiga County in Kabale District is on remand at Nalufenya Police station.
