IGP Gen Kale Kayihura has today afternoon launched a new partnership that will see the Police work hand in hand with motorists commonly known as boda boda riders in the fight against crime. He led a team that walked from one boda boda stage to another in the city as they interacted with them.

He noted that the boda boda riders have the potential to help improve security and they are ready to work with Police.

“From the security point of view, they are well distributed in the city and major towns. They get alot of information. We have not been exploiting this information or their infrastructure. This is the reason we are putting alot of effort as joint security agencies in this because they can help us since they also work throughout the night”, he stated.

He pointed out that as they interacted with boda boda riders, some revealed shocking information. One boda boda rider stated that he had seen an unidentified person carrying a gun and some stated that unidentified people usually arrest them.

IGP Kale Kayihura stated that all boda boda riders will be registered or kicked out of the business.

“We have to work with KCCA and identify them using national ID and have their registry.  When we have their registry, it will reduce chances of infiltration. This will also help to establish the link between the nearest boda boda stage and Police station”, he explained.

When asked what would be done to boda boda riders who defy the registration, he sated that they will be have to leave the business.
