When an elephant falls, it falls hard! Times are tough for suspended State minister for Labour, Employment and Industry Herbert Kabafunzaki.

Yesterday the South Korean Embassy wrote a letter addressed to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions requesting them to freshly investigate the suspended minister whom they claim tried to obtain a bribe of $5,000 (about Shs18) from a Korean national investor.

According to the Embassy, Kabafunzaki ordered for the arrest of the investor after he failed to pay the  bribe.

However, the Rukiga county Member of Parliament refuted the claims.

“This is a very false story because people came to my office claiming they are investors. I didn’t understand them. I looked at them as conmen. I called security at the ministry and take them to CPS to be investigated more. The embassy shouldn’t take it personal because one of their colleagues was taken to CPS,” he stated. .

Kabafunzaki cried out that there  is a motive to black mail him.

“Ugandans shouldn’t take advantage of the case that is in court to throw stones at me”, he cried out.

On April 8, he was arrested red handed, allegedly taking a Shs30m bribe from Aya officials at Serena Hotel. The minister, who among others is charged with ensuring welfare to all workers in the country, is said to have solicited the bribe from Aya boss, who was entangled in a sexual abuse scandal.

The incident led to his suspension as a minister.
