Uganda Prisons spokesman Frank Baine has stated that Stella Nyanzi’s frail and sickly appearance at court yesterday was due to malaria. He stated that the MUK lecturer had been diagnosed with malaria and had started receiving treatment. He stated that she had been treated before the court appearance.
When asked about mistreatment of prisoners, he stated that he was not aware of any cases of torture at the facility. Stella Nyanzi revealed in a Facebook post last night that she had been stripped before the wardens. Mr. Baine stated that it was body search.
“We have two types of searches; run down for quick searches and strip down for rigorous search”, he explained.
