Soroti bishop arrested after knocking woman dead in Kaberamaido

The Bishop of Soroti Anglican Diocese, Rev. George William Erwau, has been arrested for knocking dead a woman in Anyara Sub County in Kaberamaido district. According to a police report, the Bishop was reportedly driving his Double Cabin Pick up registration number UAN 3363 from his home in Kamswahili ward in Northern division to Soroti town last evening when he knocked Angela Atono, killing her on the spot.

According to Howwe.biz, the unfortunate incident occurred at Odukut Corner opposite Deliverance Church along Moroto road in Soroti town a few minutes to 7pm. Michael Odongo, the East Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, stated that the deceased was riding on a boda boda motorcycle heading to the opposite direction when they were hit.

He added that the unidentified boda boda cyclist sustained injuries and was rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital. Soon after the incident, Bishop Erwau handed himself to Soroti Central Police Station where he was locked up as investigations continue.

Police also towed his vehicle to the Central Police Station where it is being held. Police are yet to release a report detailing what could have led to the accident
