Following a lift on the ban on joint age limit consultation meetings, police spokesperson Asan Kasingye has defended their intervention in the rallies saying it’s the MPs that asked for their security due to the continued threats.

“There’s a background to this, we don’t wake up and create things. We’ve seen MPs being attacked; they have gone to parliament and asked for security for their rallies,” Kasingye explained.

“Should you decide you’re going to have joint consultations, let police know in advance? It helps us in policing the event.”

However, Kasingye denied any police collaboration with the non uniformed goons who are usually seen working alongside police. “If we can arrest our own officers, then why not arrest those ‘goons’ if at all we knew them,” Kasingye urged
