According to eye witnesses, former Arua Municipality Ibrahim Abiriga was waylaid by killers who unleashed bullets.
Abiriga was shot dead around 6:30pm while driving home in Wakiso, Kawanda. According to an eye witness, whenever the legislator was driving home, children would run after the yellow Volkswagen while chanting his name.
Abiriga would later slow down and tip his young fans with money.
On the fateful day, he had driven past the kids after making their day before the killers launched the attack. The killers were reportedly riding motorcycles. One rode ahead and shot at the legilstor while another shot kept at the back and fired bullets in the air as people scampered for their lives.
According to police, there were two people in the car. The late Ibrahim Abiriga was shot dead alongside his bodyguard Kongo Buga Saidi. The bodyguard was a UPDF soldier and his relative.
