Government spokesman, Mr. Ofwono Opondo has revealed that 67,000 youths were arrested in the Free Bobi Wine protests. While addressing the media today morning at Uganda Media Centre, Ofwono alleged that the youths were funded to riot.

“Some of the 67,000 youths that were arrested in relation to Bobi Wine riots [Free Bobi Wine protests] were related to receiving some of that (riot) money”, he stated.

According to Ofwono Opondo, the youths were receiving from Shs50,000 to Shs100,000 to join the streets and protest. Ofwono alleged that some of the people who were giving youths the money were arrested in city arcades as protests were going on.

When asked whether Bobi Wine would be safe on return, Ofwono stated that the legislator is free to return.

“Bobi Wine went on his own, he is free as a bird in the air to return on his own”, he stated.

“He is a citizen and that cannot be contested. His arrival will be accorded the due procedure for person of his stature as a Member of Parliament”, he explained.

Bobi Wine is expected to return this week.
