Kyadondo legislator Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is set to return this Thursday from the USA where he has been receiving treatment. While in the USA, the legislator held several press conferences broadcast on international media platforms. In his message, Bobi called upon the West to stand with what he termed as the ‘oppressed’ [the population] instead of the ‘oppressor’ [ Museveni government].

While addressing journalists, government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo stated that Bobi Wine’s return is not an issue and no one is afraid.

“Bobi Wine’s return is not an issue because if you make it an issue it means the government forcefully sent him away which is not the case. His citizenship and rights here are not contested,” Ofwono stated.

Ofwono further explained that Bobi Wine will be accorded VIP treatment if there is need because he is a Member of Parliament.

“Bobi Wine went on his own and he is as free as a bird to return. He is a Member of Parliament who qualifies to pass through the VIP section at the airport and given security up-to his destination if need be.”

Ofwono advised the West to respect Uganda’s sovereignty.
