Arua residents set KK Travellers bus ablaze after knocking person dead

Incensed after an accident, residents of Madi Okollo in Arua intercepted a KK Travellers bus that was travelling from Koboko to Kampala on Thursday night.

According to reports, the bus knocked dead a pedestrian at around 10pm. After the incident, the driver and conductor tried to flee from the scene but the locals apprehended them before they escaped.

The locals thus set the bus blaze together with luggage as passengers helplessly watched on.

Reports indicate that in the last decade, the recorded road crash fatalities in Uganda rose from 2,579 to 3,503 in 2016 representing 25.9%. As of 2017, it was reported 10 people die everyday on Uganda roads.

According to the United Nations statistics, nearly 1.25 million people are killed and up to 50 million people are injured on the world’s roads every year.
