On behalf of the government as well as on behalf of all citizens, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has given to Mozambique financial assistance of $200,000 (Shs740m) to help the survivors of a storm that recently hit the North-Eastern coastal region of the Southern African country. The president has sent a delegation led by Gen. Ivan Koreta (Uganda People’s Defence Forces Representative in Parliament) and H.E. Richard Kabonero (Uganda’s ambassador to Tanzania) to deliver the assistance.

Commenting on Uganda’s decision to offer Mozambique assistance, the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Okello Oryem, says that it’s in such situations that Uganda has to show its brotherly attachments with Mozambique.

“We, as government of Uganda, recognise that President Museveni trained in Mozambique in the 1970s. …We are sending $200,000 to Mozambique. This is just a gesture of good will. When we get more funds in the future, we shall send more aid to our brothers and sisters in Mozambique,” Mr Oryem said.

The delegation is expected to travel this week and deliver the assistance.

More than 120 people were confirmed dead and many more missing in Mozambique and neighbours Zimbabwe after the storm hit across the southern African nations with flash floods and wild winds last week.
