Three State House field officers attached to Kityelera State Lodge in Mayuge District (Busoga region), have been suspended over selling piglets. The suspended three are: Sarah Kawuma, Waitah Atim and Moses Basoga.

The officials are suspected to have sold 949 piglets that were meant to be distributed to citizens in fulfillment of the 2015 Presidential pledge to boost the livelihoods of people around Kityerera State Lodge.

The move followed a directive from State House to investigate circumstances surrounding the disappearance of piglets that were meant to be distributed to residents of Kityelera Town Council, and Mayuge Resident District Commissioner, Mr James Shilaku, executed the State House directive.

However, the project coordinator who also doubles as Kityerera Town Council District Female Councilor, Zilia Namaganda, expressed reservations about the charges against her staff as well as against their suspension –saying some politicians are simply fighting the program.

“This is because all the three field officers are my children. There are some politicians who are feeding security [officials] with wrong information to fight me,” Ms. Namaganda told the media.

But Mr Shilaku says the District Security Committee has instituted a subcommittee led by the sub county chief to investigate the matter in collaboration with police.
