State Minister for ICT Idah Nantaba has revealed that she is confined to her house on orders of President Yoweri Museveni.

Nantaba made the revelation following an invitation by the Criminal Investigation Director (CID) to record a statement regarding the matter in which her guards killed one Ronald Sebulime on Sunday.

“I am unable to report in person having been directed by His Excellency the President to confine within my premises until he himself instructs otherwise,” Nantaba’s Friday 29th March letter to CID reads in part.

She however said that CID officials are free to visit her premises to record the statement.

“I am constrained to travel to Kibuli CID Headquarters as you requested. But you may in the meantime consider visiting my premises to record the required statement.

Sebulime was killed on Sunday on Kayunga Road, with initial reports indicating that he tried to flee after an assassination attempt on Nantaba had failed.

It later turned out he was an innocent man who was riding his bike on his way to visit his children at school after eye witness accounts contradicted the police version.

On Wednesday, police retracted their earlier statement and admitted Sebulime was murdered.

“We can certainly say that what was first reported as a typical police shooting story where perceived dangerous suspects were shot at during a police pursuit is now established to be a straight forward case of murder,” Police Spokesman Fred Enanga told the press.

“We are now holding the police officers accountable for murder, conspiracy and professional misconduct,” he said.

The officers are charged of giving wrong information to police with the intention of covering up the murder.

However, a video that has widely circulated on social media indicates that Nantaba gave the initial order to shoot.

“I asked Tugume (her guard), why don’t you shoot? At least shoot in the air or shoot their tyres for this man to stop his car … his bike.”
