Besigye: NRM/M7 Junta is attempting to break Bobi Wine’s spirit through persecution, but persecution is the fire that hardens an activist

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) doyen, Dr. Kizza Besigye, has spoken out on the ongoing troubles of fellow opposition heavyweight Kyagulanyi SSentamu aka Bobi Wine, saying all that is happening to the People Power honcho is an attempt by the ‘NRM/President Museveni’ to break the singer-cum-politician’s spirit.

Besigye, who is currently having his own run-ins with police (the latest having been in Kasese on Monday) said in an interview with Matooke Republic that the recent blocking of Bobi Wine’s music concerts, his being put under house arrest and his being subjected to endless court trials is all an attempt to break Hon. Kyagulanyi’s activist spirit and get him giving up the fight to liberate Uganda. The four-time presidential candidate, however, reckoned that persecution won’t break Bobi Wine’s spirit, rather only make the man more resilient, just as a brick that goes through fire in the kiln becomes harder.

Matooke Republic contacted the doctor only seeking a clarification, after the retired colonel tweeted to the effect that NRM/President Museveni is using persecution to try and break Bobi Wine’s spirit. Here is Dr. Besigye’s Tweet:

“As we were facing blatant injustice in Kasese, my brother @HEBobiWine was again facing NRM/M7 junta persecution. It’s an attempt to break an activist’s spirit. They don’t know that its the fire that hardens an activist! Be strong brother. We shall overcome,” wrote Besigye on Twitter.

Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu is currently on remand in Luzira Prison, having been sent there by the Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate’s court on Monday. He will be returned to court tomorrow, to answer charges of leading a protest against Mobile Money tax last year.
