Personal Assistants to Members of Parliament have today delivered their petition to the Speaker Rebecca Kadaga demanding for salary increment.

In their petition, they told Kadaga that their monthly earnings range between Shs300000-350,000 which is inadequate to enable them carry out their duties.

They also urged her to support them and be included onto Parliamentary Commission, where they would be paid by the Commission rather than MPs as it is the case.

The Speaker has pledged to table their concerns at the next meeting of Parliamentary Commission. She also promised to relieve them from the heavy loads of work they do.

“Some countries such as California, a Member of Parliament has about 5 personal assistants. It makes the work easier because each assistant has a few assignments,” Kadaga said.

Personal Assistants reduce the workload of the MPs by screening letters, emails, managing schedules and taking notes at meetings.
