Together Pharma Limited, an Israeli company through its subsidiary Globus Pharma Ltd which specializes in growing, producing and distributing medical cannabis products, has reported that it made its first cannabis harvest from Uganda on Tuesday.

The company released a statement on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange on Wednesday signed by CEO Nissim Bracha, indicating how they completed their first harvest of marijuana at its farm on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.

The statement further stated that they sowed another 10 acres on the company’s farm in Uganda.

However, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 2015, specifies that persons involved in the manufacture, production, sale, or distribution of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances commit an offence and are liable, on conviction, to a fine, or imprisonment of as much as five years or both.

This comes months after government announced that the company’s license was halted.  In April this year Health Minister, Jane Aceng tasked the company to first assure cabinet that growing medical marijuana would not have a negative impact on the economy.

Government claimed to have put in place a committee to look into the matter and report back to cabinet to assist in decision making about licensing such companies. The report is yet to be delivered.
