In a few months’ time, we will soon be talking to Henry Ssuubi Kiyimba in French, and conducting interviews in the same language as he is doing mechanical work on the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

As widely reported last week, Ssuubi was offered a full scholarship in his preferred course Mechanical Engineering at Makerere University by Joadah Consult, and he has since started attending at Uganda’s prestigious University.

Yesterday, the French Ambassador to Uganda Jules-Armand Aniambossou offered Ssuubi a scholarship to learn the French language at Alliance Française Kampala, the cultural center dedicated to promotion of the French language and culture in Uganda.

The official communication from the French Embassy said that Ssuubi dreams to visit France one day, and that he likes the Eiffel Tower, the most famous landmark in France. We can’t blame Ssuubi for this, as most of us are dreaming of visiting France and the Eiffel in particular.

Ambassador Aniambossou described Ssuubi as a brilliant student with a promising future.

“It was my pleasure to meet Henry Ssuubi from Makerere University. A brilliant student with a promising future. I hope the scholarship to learn French with Alliance Française Kampala will contribute to his success story,” Aniambossou said in a tweet.

It should be remembered that Henry Ssuubi came into the limelight when a photo of him carrying a metallic suitcase and an “Ousofia” going to University Hall in Makerere University went viral.

The photo attracted public sympathy for Ssuubi, and he is now enjoying the good side of social media trolling.
