In April this year, the Uganda Police under the command of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Assuman Mugenyi halted all planned music concerts dubbed “Kyarenga Extra” organized by events promoters Abby Musinguzi Abby of Abitex Productions and Andrew Mukasa of Bajjo Events.

The main act of the cancelled events in question was supposed to be Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi performing under stage name Bobi Wine.

In turn, Abitex and Bajjo dragged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martins Ochola and Attorney General William Byaruhanga accusing them of violating their rights to earn a living and causing them a loss of over Shs240 million, half of which they had already paid to Bobi Wine and other musicians that were slated to perform on the concerts slated to take place at Busabala Beach, Lira, Arua, Wakiso and Gulu.

In the court hearing today presided over by Justice Lydia Mugambe, the two will have to wait until October 31 this year to argue out their case.

Mugambe adjourned the case because the IGP and Attorney General did not have appear, nor have a representative in court so it could not be heard.

The event promoters are seeking for a restraining order against the IGP Attorney General and the police. The order serves to prevent security personnel from interfering with their concerts but instead provide security, which is their mandate.
