As the Uganda Police was last week tasked to come up with a plan to curb the increased criminality in the country, students of the Law Development Centre Mbarara Branch situated in Kakiika are living in fear due to the increased robbery and rape cases befalling them.

It is alleged that three students have so far been raped with one of the victims being gang raped.

One of the students who preferred anonymity disclosed that one of the girls was raped at around 7pm as she headed back to her place of residence, the other was gang raped while the third victim is traumatized to disclose.

In a bid to decongest Kampala Law Development Centre due to the increasing law intake, LDC Mbarara branch was set up. Over 560 students were admitted however the students are traumatized and worried about the insecurity that might affect their performance.

“We are over 500 students. There are no hostels so we stay in rented houses. Of late, there is a challenge of insecurity. Students have been robbed and beaten in their homes. It is alleged that 2 girls have been raped, “stated a Whatasp chat that went viral on social media asking for help.

When we contacted one of the Criminal Investigation officers in Mbarara, he said that no case had been reported. However one of the students who filed a case at Mbarara Police, reference number is SD REF: 35/13/10/2019 said that the police told them to help themselves.
