Tycoon Godfrey Kirumira was on Saturday reportedly involved a fist fight with workers and security officers guarding the site of Mulago Hospital surgeon Dr Ben Khingi.

According to sources, Kirumira who was chilling at his Muyenga-based Hotel International heard a tractor digging and widening the road near his hotel. He immediately reached out to the tractor operator and tried to stop him.

However, the security officers who were on site together with other casual workers refused to obey to Kirumira’s orders which resulted into heated arguments hence sparking off fists fights between the two camps.

In the process, the chairman of Kwagalana Group was beaten to pulp but continued to resist the progress of their road digging.

It is said that, former Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt. Gen. Charles Angina (a representative of Dr Khingi) sent soldiers on the site to sort the matters but it all yielded nothing as the fights just escalated.

Military Police from Makindye was then called in and they made several arrests from both camps.

Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy spokesperson said Kirumira and Gen Angina met up later and discussed on how best they can solve the issues on a round table.

“For now Gen Angina and Kirumira are yet to get back to us but our CID department is closely following up the matter,” Owesigire said.

According to Kirumira, the road renovations are encroaching on his hotel land without his permission. However, Yassin Omar the LC1 of the area said Kirumira’s land is well demarcated and he has no reason of blocking ongoing developments that will benefit the entire residents of the area.
